UNIDENTIFIED, 2022

A devotion to the unnamed and unclaimed, Unidentified displays the faces of deceased unidentified persons who solely exist as forensic composites within public databases.

As decades old sketches are replaced by facial identikit software, Bereczky depicts the evolution of an individual’s hypothesised identity by layering charcoal and painted composites onto single supports.

Unidentified commemorates those who are reduced to statistical case numbers and fights the digitalisation of unidentified individuals by allowing their legacy to live through the painting process.
